Pediatrician New York, NY

About Us

In search of a trusted pediatrician in New York, NY? Welcome to Pediatrics 2000! Founded in 1992 by Dr. Juan Tapia-Mendoza, Pediatrics 2000 was created to serve marginalized urban communities with compassionate, high-quality pediatric care. Opening its first clinic in 1993 at 150th Street and Broadway in West Harlem—an area federally designated as medically underserved—the practice introduced the first private pediatric office and open-access clinic for Medicaid-eligible families in the neighborhood. Over the years, Pediatrics 2000 has partnered with organizations such as the National Health Service Corps and Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center to strengthen primary care, promote health education, and support community-based research. The clinic’s work has been featured by major media outlets including The New York Times, NBC, CBS, and Univision, and it now operates two locations serving over 30,000 patients annually. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Pediatrics 2000 demonstrated its commitment to community health by expanding telehealth services, distributing food, assisting with testing efforts, and volunteering at vaccination centers. Recognized as a Level 3 Patient-Centered Medical Home by the NCQA—the highest distinction in patient-centered care—Pediatrics 2000 continues to lead in providing comprehensive, accessible, and compassionate pediatric care for underserved populations.

Locations

We have two convenient locations in New York City:

Services

Well Child Visits

Regular well child visits are one of the most important ways to support your child’s healthy growth and development. These visits allow your pediatrician to monitor your child’s physical, emotional, and developmental progress while giving you the opportunity to discuss any questions or concerns about their health. To ensure timely care, we recommend scheduling your child’s well visit at the recommended intervals and calling our office at least three months in advance to secure an appointment with your child’s primary care provider at a time that best fits your family’s schedule.

Sick Child Visits

When your child is sick, getting prompt medical care is essential to help them recover quickly and comfortably. We understand how stressful it can be for parents, which is why we offer same-day sick visits to ensure your child receives timely attention and treatment. When you contact our office, our staff will assess the severity of your child’s symptoms, schedule an appointment if needed, and gather details about their condition. During the visit, our provider will perform a focused physical exam, make a diagnosis, and create a personalized treatment plan with follow-up instructions as needed.

Telehealth

Telehealth, also known as a virtual visit, allows your child to be seen by one of our physicians through secure video conferencing—offering convenient access to care without the need to come into the office. Your child will still be treated by their regular pediatrician, who knows their full medical history and has access to their chart, ensuring continuity of care. While not all conditions are suitable for telehealth, it’s an excellent option for many minor or acute concerns such as rashes, pinkeye (without fever in children over two years old), colds, mild fevers, allergies, mild croup, constipation, diarrhea, vomiting, and minor injuries.
